Halloween Traditions by Clara

Halloween is an annual celebration on October the 31st. Halloween was originally a Celtic and pagan celebration called Samhain, later named Halloween. Halloween is meant to be the night where the ghosts, monsters and dead come back to life on earth . People believe that to trick/prank people on Halloween it is good luck. Some people light back garden fires to keep any evil spirits or ghosts away. In Mexico a similar festival is celebrated called The Day Of The Dead which is where the Halloween rainbow skeletons are originally from. Some people believe that ringing a dorbell prevents bad luck (that's how trick or treating started ). Some say to meet a witch you have to put you clothes on inside out and walk backwards on the night of Halloween? My nan told me that years ago they used to carve spooky faces out of carrots and have a bucket full of water and apples and you would go head first in trying to eat the apples with no hands .
