On the 26th of March 2016 Portumna u13 girls rugby made history. We were crowned Connaught Champions. We are the first ever u13 girls Connaught champions and it's the first trophy ever for Portumna RFC.
On the day we were very nervous and pumped up. We had a by in the first match so we sussed out our game plan. Our first match was against Ballinasloe. They were hard to beat but we won 1-0. Our second match was against Corinthians. They were very good but our defensive line was great so we won. Our third match was against Monivea. We knew we had to get the ball out wide and that's what we did. We won again. Our last match was against Westport. Both teams wanted to get into the final but we wanted it more! Our last match the final was against Ballinasloe. We were hungry for the win and we knew exactly what we needed to do.
When the final whistle blew I was delighted that we won! Eimear our trainer nearly cried. The girls are like a second family to me.
When we were being presented with the cup Katelyn (our captain) made a speech, she thanked everyone for coming and supporting us.
After that we headed to Supermacs and we were very thankful to Anne Rabbitte for paying.
I hope we are successful next season too! And good luck to the senior men who are in a final.
