All classes from Junior Infants to 6th class took part in the 2021 Farm Safe Schools Initiative. Here is our journey of discovery.........................
Module 1: As part of our farm tour with our neighbour Aidan Hough we learned about slurry safety, the danger of slurry gases and how to stay safe
Module 1: Farm Visit and Safety Signs
Junior Room Farm Art
As part of Module 1 the Junior room children learned about the work of the farmer out in the fields. The farmer works hard and needs to look after their own health and wellness in order to care for the animals properly.
Module 1: Farmer, Farm & Fields.
We got out and about looking for farm safety signs on our farms and in our local area. We became familiar with the different colour signs and what they mean thanks to Alma and her excellent webinars. We found all sorts of safety signs- animal safety, electricity safety, water safety and slurry safety
Module 2: Bulls, cows and calves- We learned so much on our farm visit with Aidan.
Senior Room Farm Art Displays
As part of Module 2- 'Animals' we built model farms. We included warning signs around the farm for slurry safety, machinery safety, animal safety and chemical and electrical safety. We had lots of animals on our farms including cows and calves, bulls, horses, fowl and our beloved pets.
Displaying and explaining our farm art to the Junior classroom
Module 2: We came together in the outdoor sunshine as the senior room displayed their model farms and talked to the junior room about safety signs and what they mean. They talked about all of the animals on the farm and when to be extra careful. Peer learning at its best.
Module 2: Knowing our warning signs
As part of Module 2, the children in the junior room learned about the different animals on the farm. We learned about animal safety and how to take care of the many animals on the farm.
